Hondarribia, also known by its Spanish name Fuenterrabía, is one of the most traditional small towns in the area surrounding San Sebastian, and unquestionably one of the prettiest. Situated on the western shore of Txingudi Bay, it is one of the border towns separating Spain from France, and lies practically on the French border.
The town centre, port and beaches all deserve a visit. But Honarribia has far more to offer; it is home to some of the best pintxo bars and restaurants in all of Guipuzcoa (the province in which San Sebastian in located).

Arroka Berri Restaurant
- : One of the stalwarts of Hondarribia’s cuisine. Here, you can enjoy good food at a fair price. It has a stunning terrace, and on a sunny day it makes a pleasant spot to sit and enjoy a drink. Food-wise, highlights include the lubina (sea bass) and the rodaballo (turbot). If you’ve got a sweet tooth, make sure not to miss the caramelised torrijas, similar to French toast, which are served with rice pudding ice cream. They’re definitely the best I’ve ever tried.

Alameda Restaurant
- : Another of the region’s great restaurants. The prices are considerably higher than at Arroka Berri but it’s well worth it. After all, this restaurant holds a Michelin Star. For those who like to know the price of their meal in advance, there are three set menus, at €35, €50 and €80.

- This pretty restaurant is inside a traditional Basque house. The decor is very welcoming and makes you feel at home while you dine. The menu is extensive and varied and you’ll have no trouble finding something to your taste.

Sebastian Restaurant: If you’re looking for an intimate and welcoming spot for a romantic evening meal, Sebastian is definitely the place for you. It offers a warm welcome and excellent food.
